"Inside Heli" #103 Podcast – Brian James, General Manager of Miniature Aircraft USA

Another one of the many free on-line resources open to heli modellers at the moment is the online magazine show All Things That Fly (attf). It’s an interesting site that releases regular podcasts about all things model related with quite alot of information and reviews etc being heli related.

One of their regular slots is “Inside Heli” which focuses on the heli community. One of their latest offerings is the “Inside Heli” #103 Podcast – interview with Brian James, General Manager of Miniature Aircraft USA.

For those of you who know little about Brian or Miniature Aircraft USA, but perhaps want to learn more, it is well worth listening to as Brian gives a full, open and a very honest insight into what it is like to work and live within the hobby industry amongst many other aspects of the heli market at the moment. Personally I found it refreshing to hear a Brian as GM of one of our model companies speaking frankly and honestly about the hobby industry and where MA USA fit into it. Worth a listen….

SmackTalk R/C – The Best of Season 1 for FREE

Check out Bobby Watts and Bert Kammerer of SmackTalk RC with their latest “Best Of Season One of SmackTalk” in which the guys review each episode showing interviews and also some cool outtakes!

SmackTalk RC is a fantastic fun and informative resource for all heli flyers but particularly those looking to take the next step up from sport flying to full blown, hardcore 3D. Also worth noting is that on the SmackTalk RC website Bobby and HALF PRICE until Christmas day which I think is a real bargain.

Check it out.

Why not simplify things this Christmas with a SwitchGlo or PushGlo?

A perfect Christmas present for the modeller who is fed up of forgetting to bring out their glow stick or are tired of glow sticks shorting in their pocket (personal experience here!!) or glow sticks breaking or losing their charge at the field. SwitchGlo Pro and also the new PushGlo allow you to ignite your glow from onboard the model itself without having to worry about carrying your glow stick and without draining your receiver battery heavily.

Taken from the SwitchGlo website www.switchglo.com ;

How it works: SwitchGlo Pro simply plugs into a receiver channel, then to your glow plug. You assign a transmitter toggle switch to this SwitchGlo channel, and toggle your glow on and off, at startup or inflight.

You can program mix SwitchGlo just as you can program mix any servo on your craft, allowing you to utilize your glow in ways you never thought possible! Low Throttle glow activation is achieved by programming your TX to activate the SwitchGlo channel at any throttle position you desire. You can further enhance your Low Throttle mix by assigning a toggle switch to activate the mix, thereby forever preventing “Hot Starts”

Also now available is the new PushGlo glow igniter, a cheaper alternative which has all the same quality of normal SwitchGlo but is suited to those who don’t want to take up or perhaps don’t have an available transmitter channel allowing the glow to be activated straight from the model.

Check out www.switchglo.com for more details and also check out my Onboard glow review article from Rotorworld magazine in my “Heli Hints” section

My Furion 6 Rotorworld Review Issue 56

Check out my MA Furion 6 review in the current copy of Rotorworld Issue 56. Eventually it will make it’s way to my “Heli Hints” page like some of my other articles. :-)

Indoor Season once again

It’s that time of year again and the indoor scene is kicking off once more. I’ve only been a couple of times so far this season myself but I plan to do alot more. With that in mind if your club is running an open indoor event this year just drop me a mail and I would love to come along with my Furion 450 and strategically miss the walls! :-)

Below is a photo of the one and only Richard Boyd of Expressfly proving that he is actually a closet helicopter flyer as he hovers (prop hangs in plank speak!) his own design indoor model the “Suk X”. Nice one Richard.

UK 3D Championship 2010

This weekend I’m off to the UK 3D Championship at Croft Farm Water Park, Tewkesbury. Some of the best 3D pilots from all over the UK will be present and it promises to be a fun weekend. Check out www.3dchampionship.co.uk for up to date info of the event.

This event also sees the first public showing of my new Miniature Aircraft USA Furion 6 electric helicopter which is set up and flying well. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us!
